Crisis Lines

The crisis line program at NRSAC has been a foundation to the services of the organization. The program was maintained by staff during business hours and with volunteers after hours and on weekends. At different times through the lifespan of this program, staff have been relied upon to support volunteers, answering the lines, as well as to provide support in times of volunteer absences. As the program has evolved, scheduling became increasingly difficult and extremely time consuming. In an effort to better control expenses, sexual assault centres in Ontario have begun to coordinate crisis line services by sharing resources. NRSAC joined with SAVIS of Halton to offer crisis line services for our community and clients in Niagara. Our volunteer crisis line workers are now scheduled through SAVIS and we help fund the 24-7 crisis line. Collaborative efforts by OCRCC centres to coordinate delivery of crisis line services has made it possible to better fund this important service while maintaining consistent response to users of the line.
